Positive Discipline!

We had an insightful training this week by Dodie Blomberg, on using positive discipline in the classroom to decrease unwanted behaviors.  I got inspired and came home and created a little poster to hang behind my desk to remind myself of some of the important points from her presentation.

I'm really excited to try this one out.... If you ever have students who respond with, "I don't know" try saying, "Well... if you did know, what do you think you would do or say". Of course, as adults we would never think of saying something as simple as this, but I bet it works! Have you ever tried it and been successful?

She also did a fun activity with us that involved the word "don't".  For example, she told us, "don't sit down, don't stand still, don't put your hands at your side". You should have seen our staff, it was a riot! However, it really showed us that by using the word, "don't" children have to process more and it leaves other options available since directions are not clear and concise.

Here's my little poster! :-)

Symmerty Butterflies!

Here is an easy and fun project to practice the concept of symmetry with your students. Simply print out the butterfly template (http://www.freecoloring.info/img/butterfly2-01.gif) and let your students color this butterfly by making sure both sides are symmetrical. You could increase the image size on your copier, if you would like a bigger butterfly. You could also try letting the students add glitter to spice up their butterfly!
